   PreK Press
        January 20th - February 3rd

Dinosaurs:  We are now fully immersed in one of the PreKer’s favorite topics - dinosaurs!  The children love learning all the correct dinosaur names, whether they were plant or meat eaters, and what many of their individual characteristics were.  We have already shared many interesting facts, have begun creating a dinosaur vocabulary list (which includes words such as paleontologist, extinct, excavate, frill, crest, fossil, and skeleton), have begun a “50 dinosaur book” challenge (we are currently at 21), and have talked about whether the books we are reading are fiction or nonfiction.  There have been many exciting dinosaur activities completed already, and many more to come.  Please be sure to check out the classroom mural, easel paintings, and all the other materials and artwork.

Celebration of Learning - Dinosaurs:   Please mark  Monday, February 29th on your calendar for our Celebration of Learning - Dinosaurs.  It will be in the Clark House from 8:00 - 8:30 AM.  and will follow a similar format to our celebration of bridges.  Parents, siblings and grandparents are all invited to attend.  We recommend that you arrive as close to 8:00 AM as possible to allow enough time to enjoy all the activities the PreKers have worked on.

Valentine’s Day Celebration:  On Friday, February 12th the PreKers will be having a Valentine’s Day celebration in the classroom that will include a special snack (a sign-up sheet is now posted in the hallway) and the passing out of valentines.  Please send your child to school with valentines for each child in the class and have them sign their name on each card.  The children may address them if they want to, but it is not necessary, as we will be helping them distribute the cards.  We will also be making valentine holders in class so there is no need to send in any type of container from home.  Here is a list of all the children in the class.

No School:  Please note that TCS will be closed on Monday, February 15th.

Movie Night at TCS:  Please remember that this Thursday, February 4th is the showing of the film “Most Likely To Succeed” at 6:15 PM.  Details and registration/ticket information can be found in the “Little Hoot”.

Parent Conferences: There is no school for children on Friday, February 19th as that is our next parent conference day.  The sign-up sheet is now posted outside the classroom.  As always, we look forward to talking with all of you about your terrific children!  Hopefully there is a time slot that works for you and, if not, please let us know so we can find an alternative.  Thank you to all who have already signed up.

Guest Teacher for Music: - As Mr. Fixx wrote in his letter to the TCS community last week, we are excited to welcome Ms. Lindy Toczko as our long-term guest teacher for music while Mrs. Wepler in on maternity leave.  The PreKers met her last Friday as she and Mrs. Wepler came to the classroom for their regularly scheduled music time.  We will be seeing her this Friday as well, along with all subsequent Fridays.  We will miss Mrs. Wepler and we welcome Ms. Toczko!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day:  The date for Grandparents and Special Friends Day is officially set for Friday, May 8th.  Please be sure to mark it on your calendar, read additional information about it in The Little Hoot, and give the names and addresses to the Farmhouse as soon as possible.  If you will not be able to have someone joining your PreK student for that day, please speak directly to Mrs. Halsey or Ms. Hard.

Weather Related Information For When There Is Snow On The Ground:
  1. Please be sure that your child has a change of shoes every day.  They should come into the classroom wearing their “indoor” shoes each morning and their snow boots should be left in the hallway with the rest of their snow gear.
  2. All children must have sneakers for gym every Thursday.
  3. Please send in an extra pair of socks with your child's snow gear just in case.
  4. Please make sure that your child’s gloves or mittens are waterproof for the snow.
  5. Please note that if we have a delayed start WE WILL NOT HAVE SNACK that day.

PreK BLOG:  This is just a reminder to check out our PreK blog weekly to get an additional peek into your child’s days at school. There are some great photos posted of things that are happening in the classroom and it is being updated regularly.  We hope you enjoy it!!
