PreK Press
January 4th - January 19th

Holiday Program: We would be remiss if we didn’t start out by acknowledging the wonderful job the PreKers did during their performance for the Holiday Program.  It is always a thrill to see them up on stage, doing their best, sharing their smiles and voices, and experiencing another TCS tradition. Not only did they do an excellent job singing but they were also terrific audience members!  Bravo!!

Welcome Back:  It is always such a joy to return to school after a vacation and see how happy the children are to be back with their friends in PreK!  As we enter the new year, we continue to be grateful to play a role in your child’s life, and we thank you for sharing them with us.

Dinosaur Study:  Our first week back, as the children were busy playing, learning, sharing stories, renewing friendships, and talking about the year 2016, they were also anxiously asking “What are we going to learn about next?”  After being told that it was “a surprise”, we can now tell you that the surprise is over!  Beginning last week the PreKers started what is traditionally one of their favorite units of study - DINOSAURS.  The children saw most all of the materials that will help them learn about these great extinct creatures.  They have begun to learn all the correct names of the dinosaurs, whether they ate plants (herbivores), meat (carnivores), or both (omnivores), what their habitats were like, and whether or not they were “friendly”.  We will be sharing many interesting facts over the next few weeks and you may be surprised by how much information your children learn!  We have lots of exciting activities planned so keep your eyes open for projects being sent home and others displayed in the classroom.  Check out our Mighty Stegosaurus that is hanging in the classroom.  (You can’t miss it!)  As we near the end of our study, we will have a Celebration of Learning - Dinosaurs. We will let you know the date once it is set.  Please know that if your child has anything relating to dinosaurs at home that they would like to share, please let them do so.

TCS School Play:  Please plan on coming to the TCS musical “Aladdin” which is being performed on Saturday, January 23rd at 5:00 PM and Sunday, January 24th at 2:00 PM.  It is bound to be a wonderfully entertaining and enjoyable event!

TCS Open House:  Sunday, January 31st is an Open House here at TCS from 1:00 – 3:30 P.M.  If you know of anyone who is interested in learning more about The Country School, please tell them to come visit.  For more information please contact the Office of Admissions.

Movie Night at TCS:  Please mark Thursday, February 4th on your calendar and join the TCS community for the showing of the film “Most Likely to Succeed” at 6:15 PM.  Please check The Little Hoot for more specific information and registration information.  We hope to see you there.

Valentine’s Day Celebration: The PreKers will have a Valentine exchange and celebration in class on Friday, February 12th.  We will send home more specific information in our next newsletter so be on the lookout.

Parent Conferences:  There is no school for children on Friday, February 19th as that is our next parent conference day.  The sign-up sheet will be posted outside the classroom within the next few days.  As always, we look forward to talking with all of you about your terrific children!  Hopefully there is a time slot that works for you and, if not, please let us know so we can find an alternative.

Outdoor Winter Clothes:  Now that we are fully into New England winter weather, please be sure to send your child to school daily with a LABELED coat, hat and mittens.  (Gloves are okay as long as your child can put them on independently.)  Your child also needs to have snow pants and boots whenever there is snow on the ground.  If you would like to leave their boots and snow pants at school you are welcome to do so.  Please put them in a labeled, sturdy bag, hang them on their hook in the hallway, and then let us know.  We will send them home on Fridays so they can be washed as needed.  It is very important that when children wear boots to school that they also have a pair of shoes to change into.  (This is especially true on gym day - Thursday.)

Class Books:  We are currently circulating one of our PreK class books.  It is sent home in a canvas book bag for protection.  Please share the book with your child, write a comment on the last page, and return to the classroom the following day.  Remember that all 15 children want to have their turn in a timely manner so please return it promptly.  Thank you and enjoy!!

Pizza Day:  Please remember to send in a lunchbox every day for your child even if they are signed up for pizza on Fridays.  The children usually look for a dessert, a drink or a small snack after eating their pizza and also need an alternative in case they don’t feel like pizza that day.  Thanks!

Box Tops for Education:  Thank you to all who have been contributing Box Tops for Education this year.  TCS will continue to collect them in the months ahead so please put them in the container on the table right outside the classroom.
