PreK Press
April 12 - April 28
PreK CONCERT: We are so proud of this group of PreKers and the wonderful job they did during their PreK Concert! They were very excited to be on stage to perform for you and their Reading Buddies. We hope you enjoyed it as much as the children did!
IDEA DAY: TCS proudly celebrates IDEA DAY each year. IDEA stands for Interpreting Diversity Education through Action. The theme this year is EMPATHY and ties in nicely with the ongoing conversations and focus on empathy throughout the year. The mission of the day (although PreK spends the entire week on it) is to create an inspiring event for our students (as well as faculty and staff) to view the world differently through a better understanding of the nature and development of diversity on a personal, national and global scale. While much of this sounds a bit lofty for young children, we have already shared several age appropriate stories and engaged in much conversation, brainstorming, modeling and role play to help the class understand the definition and the importance of being empathetic.
DRESS DOWN DAY: Tomorrow - Friday, April 29th is a dress down day.
GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL FRIENDS DAYS:
Grandparents & Special Friends Day is fast approaching and the children are busy preparing some songs and activities for our visitors. Particularly for those who are new to TCS this year, Grandparents & Special Friends Day (GSFD for short) is a very special day for The Country School. There is a tremendous amount of planning and preparation that takes place behind the scenes to make it a successful and rewarding day for everyone - students and visitors alike. There are many volunteer opportunities available for parents, so please speak up if you are able to help. Those guests visiting in PreK next Friday will be escorted from the gym to the classroom at 10:30. Here the children will share activities, give classroom tours, move to the STEAM Lab for a story, and end with a concert/share time back in our classroom. At 12:00 all students and guests are invited to the gym for a special lunch provided by the school. We are hoping to see all PreKers with their guests and siblings (if applicable) enjoying the food and festivities. At 1:15 guests can either
1) leave the campus with their PreK grandchild
2) return their grandchild to the PreK classroom for the remainder of
the afternoon (if that is the child’s usual schedule) before they leave
OR
3) if they are staying for older sibling activities, return their grandchild
to the PreK classroom and then join their older grandchild and their
activities
PARENTS - WE NEED YOUR HELP!
EVEN IF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE RSVP’D TO THE SCHOOL, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ALL PARENTS LET MS. HARD & MRS. HALSEY KNOW BY NEXT TUESDAY WHO WILL BE JOINING YOUR CHILD NEXT FRIDAY. WE NEED TO KNOW THE FOLLOWING:
- The number of guests attending
- The names of the guests
- Their relationship to your child
- How many will be going to lunch
- What the dismissal plan for your child is - 1:15, 3:00, or Owl’s Nest, and WHO will be taking your child home
As was stated in our last newsletter as well, it is imperative that every child have at least one grown-up here so let us know if there are any extenuating circumstances. We will work something out! As always, if you have any questions just ask. We look forward to a fun and extremely busy day!
BEARS, BEARS & MORE BEARS: The class thoroughly enjoyed our 3 week study of bears. Our smallest bears from home were shared one day and were measured using Cuisenaire rods. We read 3 Corduroy stories, made our own version of him, and counted and graphed the number of pockets everyone was wearing that day. We counted 81! Our favorite stuffed bears came to school on Thursday, April 14th. We “met” them all, sorted them by color, drew portraits of them for a bear book, and ended the day with a Teddy Bear Picnic complete with red plaid tablecloths on the floor, teddy bear headbands on our heads, and our favorite teddies at our sides. While we didn’t quite meet our “50 Bear Book Challenge”, we did get to 42 (which is still pretty impressive in a 3 week period). It was a “beary” educational and fun time!
TEDDY BEAR BOOK: Our most recent class book entitled “Our Favorite Bears” is almost ready, and we will be sending it home for you to enjoy in the near future. It is important to note that the drawings in this book were done using their favorite stuffed bears from home as their models.
PreK TALENTS: The children have continued to impress us with their willingness and ability to share talents with Reading Buddies! As many of you know, it is much more about their opportunity to be up in front of a group than it is about their actual talents and interests. We happily celebrate each child’s individual success and are so proud of their presentations! Jacob showed us his skateboard, talked about his developing interest in riding it, and shared a couple of his special moves. Piper wowed us with her Irish Step dancing talent, explained some of the individual dance steps and explained her clothing and special shoes. Talia shared her special and extensive rock collection as she pointed out several of her favorites.
FIELD TRIP TO GRASS ISLAND: One of our favorite PreK traditions is our annual field trip to Grass Island (in Madison) with our Reading Buddies. It is scheduled for Thursday, May 26th. Additional information and permission slips will be sent home in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, we want you to know that parents (no younger siblings please) are invited to meet us there. Please put the date on your calendar if you are interested in joining us.
