May 20th - June 9th
GRASS ISLAND
Our field trip to Grass Island with our Reading Buddies was a huge success on a picture perfect day. The children had a wonderful time exploring the tidal pools while finding various kinds of crabs, snails, seaweed, and shells. It was very evident that the 4th graders enjoyed it just as much as the PreKers did, and it was a nice way to celebrate the special bonds that have developed between all the Reading Buddies. Thank you to the parents who were able to join us! We appreciate your participation, support, and helpfulness.
LOTS OF BUGS
We have had lots of fun learning about lots of bugs! The children have made bees, ladybugs, a class caterpillar, their own bugs that have been hanging on our bulletin board, and they will be completing ant counting papers. They have also designed habitats in the classroom using tree blocks, tree cookies, foam blocks, magnetic marbles, colored bowls, a variety of manipulatives, and just about anything else they could find! Knowing that most insects have 6 legs and most spiders have 8 has been a springboard for identifying various creatures discovered both inside and outside. We have stressed the importance of returning all living creatures to their natural habitat after examining them, so don’t be surprised if your child wants to release them as opposed to squash them!
SELF-PORTRAITS
Last September all PreKers drew self-portraits that were displayed in class. This week they have drawn new ones and next week both will be hanging side by side on the bulletin board in the classroom . Be sure to take a look. You may be surprised by some of the growth that has taken place! (These pictures will be sent home - along with all their other projects, folders, clothes, etc. on the last day of school.)
FOURTH GRADE STATE FAIR
Today - Thursday, June 2nd the PreKers were invited to the 4th Grade STEAM celebration of learning: State Travel Expo. We began in the music room where the 4th graders sang some patriotic songs and then we went to their classroom spaces where each 4th grader had a display of information and plaster sculptures that related to the state they had chosen to study. PreKers were able to walk around, visit with their Reading Buddies, ask questions, and learn a little bit about each of the states. It was a great experience for all so be sure to ask your child about it!
READING BUDDY TALENTS
All the PreKers have now shared their wonderful talents with their Reading Buddies! Katie did a great job of demonstrating several different yoga moves, Cayden showed everyone pictures of his dogs and talked about how he trains them, Josie shared her interest and skill with gymnastics, Nathaniel talked about his interest in Labyrinth mazes and demonstrated his ability at completing a variety of them, and Luci talked about her developing interest in baseball and showed everyone how to hold and swing a bat. Congratulations to all the PreKers!!! This was a truly exceptional year filled with terrific ideas, presentations and 100 % participation!!!
MANILA ENVELOPES
PLEASE be sure to return your child’s manila envelope to class tomorrow, as we need them when we send home lots of things on the last day of school.
CALLING ALL LIBRARY BOOKS
This is just a reminder to please return all TCS library books as soon as possible so the inventory process can be completed before the end of the school year. Thank You.
PLANNING AHEAD FOR KINDERGARTEN
Please keep in mind over the summer that any student returning for Kindergarten in the fall will need to have a physical before attending the first day of school. The forms are available online and if you have any questions please contact Mrs. Fucci.
Thank you for sharing your children with us and making this such an amazing year!
