PreK Press
March 8 -April 11
WELCOME BACK: It is always wonderful to return to school after vacation and watch the children reconnect so quickly with each other and resume their school routines with such confidence and enthusiasm. We hope you all had time to relax and re-energize!
ALL ABOUT BEARS: For the last couple of weeks we have been focusing on the study of bears. We have been learning some very interesting facts while expanding our bear-related vocabulary about brown bears, American black bears, Asiatic black bears, polar bears, Sloth bears, Sun bears, and Spectacled bears. The children have been busy painting their own bears at the easel, creating bears from construction paper for our class mural and painting and decorating their “jointed” bears. All of these are on display in the classroom so please feel free to come in and check them out either at drop off or pick up. They have also been using bears with the tree blocks, using bear count and sorts for sorting and classifying in addition to learning some bear poems and songs. They will also be illustrating their own bear books, illustrating a page for our class book and making a few more related projects that you will be seeing soon. And speaking of soon…(read on)
SPECIAL BEAR DAYS: Please help your child remember each of the special jobs they have for this Wednesday (wear clothing with pockets) and Thursday (bring in your favorite stuffed bear) per the notice that was sent home Friday. Thanks for your help.
THE 50 BEAR BOOK CHALLENGE: The PreKers are very excited to be participating in our 50 bear book challenge! We set a goal of reading 50 books about bears (both fiction and nonfiction) during our 3 week unit on bears. We are making great progress, writing a list of all the titles, and counting daily to see how many we have read and how many more we have to go. We’ll let you know the end result. Friday is our last day for this challenge.
TALENTS FOR READING BUDDIES: One of our favorite activities of the year - PreK talents - have begun and we thank our first three volunteers! Georgia talked about her participation and interest in soccer and brought in her soccer shirt and equipment to show. Laila showed off her roller blades and shared her experiences in roller-blading. Lucy shared 2 talents that both involve rope - one was her interest in practicing and improving her ability to jump rope and the other was her newly acquired ability to secure a rope on a cleat. All three children did a wonderful job! We look forward to all the talents yet to come! Please remember that a note will be sent home a week prior to your child’s turn.
CHANGE IN PLAYGROUND RULES: With the approach of warmer weather and the growth of the children and their abilities, we wanted to let you know that the climbing walls are now available for the PreKers to use. They are very excited and have already begun exploring the walls and developing their climbing skills. We have discussed the importance of using them safely which means that only 2 children are allowed on the wall at a time. Your help in reinforcing this is greatly appreciated.
PREK CONCERT: We hope you have all marked your calendar for Friday, April 22nd. At 8:30 AM the PreKers will be ready to perform for you in the music room. Please plan on bringing your child to school before 8:15 so we can all get ready together. Parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. are all invited to attend. Additional information will be sent home shortly. We hope to see you there
GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY: May 6th will be here really soon. Particularly for those who are new to TCS this year, Grandparents & Special Friends Day (GSFD for short) is a very special day for The Country School. There is a tremendous amount of planning and preparation that takes place behind the scenes to make it a successful and rewarding day for everyone - students and visitors alike. There are many volunteer opportunities available for parents so please speak up if you are able to help. Also, please let us (Ms. Hard & Mrs. Halsey) know as soon as possible (either in person, by sending in a little note, or by email) who and how many will be joining your child on that day. It is imperative that every child have at least one grown-up here so let us know if there are any extenuating circumstances. We will work something out!
